I know planning a wedding can seem overwhelming. You're fed information/advice from all directions. At times it can feel like information overload! There are some brides who take it all in stride and ask the experts before making any sudden changes while other brides feel the pressure and end up making major changes in their appearance, skin care, etc before their wedding day. Ultimately, those who end up making major changes right before the big day are rarely happy with the results.
Just recently I was hired by a bride who had decided, very last minute, to have her eyebrows tattooed using permanent makeup. I had not met the bride until her wedding day as she was from out of province so I wasn't able to discuss this option with her at her trial. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have recommended her doing anything like this especially so close to her wedding day.
When I arrived on the big day my bride was beyond stressed and had convinced herself that she looked terrible and there was no hope! Of course she didn't look terrible and of course there was hope! Her one eyebrow looked good, albeit up close you could see clearly that she had permanent makeup done but the arch was good and so was the length. It was workable. Her other eyebrow was not good. The arch was placed incorrectly and the length was obviously different from her other eyebrow. I managed to make them both look relatively the same using makeup (really could have done it much easier without having to fight the permanent makeup job!) But at least it looked nice on her wedding day and by the time I had finished her makeup she was feeling much better about everything.
But honestly.....what a way to start what should be the best and happiest day of your life!
In this business I have seen some pretty shabby attempts at permanent makeup and I've been left trying to "fix" the problem later on. It's so much easier just to teach a client how to fix small problem area's like eyebrows with makeup rather than having them resort to permanent makeup as a solution.
As with anything, there are good businesses out there that offer wonderful permanent makeup results for clients who suffer from diseases like alopecia. I'm not saying there isn't a need for this type of service but let's be serious....if you have some scrawny eyebrows or eyebrows that aren't even on both sides - join the crowd!! If you think that adding permanent eye liner/lip liner or eyebrows is a good idea, I beg you to step back and think it over before you jump in. In many cases, most facial imperfections are easily dealt with using makeup. It's really just a matter of learning the right techniques.
The last thing you want on your wedding day is to experience stress over a last minute decision you made that could potentially turn out badly. My advice to those brides thinking about permanent makeup is to ask a professional makeup artist if they can suggest other options for you that are less "permanent!"
