This is the eagerly anticipated new British supercar which can reach speeds of over 200mph and could be yours – for £800,000.
Twenty years after shaking up the supercar industry with the world’s fastest car, McLaren has unveiled its latest creation – the P1.
The “ultimate supercar” is set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next week and boasts an acceleration of 0 – 62mph in three seconds.
Its predecessor, the McLaren F1, held the title of “fastest production car” for 13 years with a top speed of 240mph before being overtaken by the 254mph Bugatti 16.4 Veyron.
The new two-seater P1 is rumoured to have a top speed of 239mph and is believed to have smashed the best lap time for a road-legal car at the Silverstone circuit.
However in a statement, McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff hints: "Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit."
The powerful supercar – made from a super-lightweight carbon-fibre structure - is being built at McLaren’s state of the art factory in Woking, Surrey.
The P1 prototype will be unveiled in Paris next week with the finished supercar, limited to 500 models, due to go on sale in September.
A McLaren spokesman said: “McLaren Automotive will use its first ever international motor show appearance to preview its next generation ultimate supercar – the McLaren P1 – which takes much of its technological and spiritual inspiration from the company’s Racing division.
“The McLaren P1 has one simple goal: to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track.”
