Timing for Makeup and Hair On Your Wedding Day

Planning and timing on your wedding day are crucial components to make certain your big day goes off without a hitch. Makeup and hairstyling do take time and they are (in most cases) the very last step you will take before you step into your wedding gown and walk down the aisle. So really, how long does it take per person for makeup and hair and how much time should you allocate for these services on your big day?

In general we allot 1.5 hours per person for mobile makeup and hair services. Sometimes it takes us less time, sometimes a little more time but in the end, the timing is balanced out. A makeup application itself takes approximately 30 minutes, whether you are airbrushing or applying foundation the traditional style. Some clients assume airbrushing will take less time because you're simply spraying the product on to someone's face. Wrong! Airbrushing takes time and in fact it can, at times, take longer per face to complete than traditional application. (but that's information for another day and another blog!)
Bridal hairstyling takes approximately one hour per person - this includes updo's, half up/half down styles, braids, hair down with curls and even the occasional basic blow out. Mom's/Grandmother's/Women with very short hair will sometimes take less time but again, in general if you allocate 1.5 hours per person you will find your timing works out well and everyone will be ready by the time you need everyone ready.
One last thought....if you've hired yourself a seasoned professional makeup artist and hair stylist (or a team of them) trust they know how long your services will take.  Don't assume you know better and try and outsmart them by adjusting the timelines! Trust they have your best interest at heart.
