The eventual winner will represent the region at the award later this year.
Both Alogo and Soultan are currently topping the charts in their respective countries, while D’Banj is trying to find his feet after parting with Don Jazzy, the producer that many believe has made the musician what he is today in the music industry.
D’Banj has received knocks for his latest single, “Oyato”, but is still enjoying music lovers’ support for “Oliver Twist” and “Scapegoat”.
Soultan, a Morrocan singer considered as one of the Nayda, often called the OSNI, which could be translated USO for Unknown Sounding Object for his very particular style, has his song, “Jokko”, nominated for his region’s “Best North African” song and “Best Reggae Song of the Year”, while Alobo, whose songs such as “Someone Like You” and “In The Rain”, has put him in good stead in the category.
Alobo, a popular Christian pop star from India’s vibrant hill state with rich music scenario, Nagaland, recently won the ‘Best Folk Fusion” award at the Nagaland Music Award for his song titled “Kumsugulo”.
D’Banj, however, is not left out in terms of deserved honours as he has won the "Best African Act" at the 2007 MTV EMA, "Artist of the Year" at both the 2008 and 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and “Best International Act, Africa”, at the 2011 BET Awards.
For emerging tops at the MTV EMA as the “Best African Act” recently, D’Banj has the hot duo to beat to add to honours that adorn the walls of his Lekki apartment.
D’Banj received the most votes from fans across sub-Saharan Africa to win the category. He is confident of his chances at the award. “I am not afraid of anything, life goes on for me whether I win or otherwise”, he stated.
