The 3 Most Asked Questions from Brides

Hi ladies!  Today I thought I would write about the 3 main questions I get asked most frequently from brides to be.  I hope this is helpful!  Enjoy!

1.  How far in advance should I book my trial? My wedding?

Reality is....most brides book their trial 3 – 6 months in advance of their wedding

Many makeup and hair artists, like myself, are booked months in advance. For instance, I have 2 confirmed bookings for next July alone and it’s only mid November!  If you've searched websites and found the makeup/hair artist you are most interested in working with, contact them now. You should feel comfortable and at ease discussing your requirements and the earlier you start the lines of communication with your chosen artist, the more comfortable you will feel about booking your trial.

When I’m asked, I always recommend booking your trial as early as possible especially if you’re well organised and are confident about your wedding colours. The same goes for hair trials – providing you have a good idea of what style you would like and what type of hair/head piece you will be wearing, the sooner you book, the sooner you can relax knowing that part of your wedding is taken care of.

Wedding Day Bookings:
Your wedding day should be booked before or as soon as possible after your trial is complete in order to ensure your wedding day is confirmed.

2.  Do you come directly to me or do I have to come to you?

Many freelance makeup artists and hair stylists are mobile and as such, come directly to your home or venue of choice. Some artists will offer a discount if you come to them and some will charge you extra for the privledge of them coming to you. Ask your chosen artist up front what any extra costs may be. Understand all the extra costs before you book him/her.

On a personal note, I find my client’s love the ease and convenience of having me come to their home or venue. I tend to think it’s a luxury we all need at least once in life! Also, I don’t charge extra for this service in Toronto or the GTA, including Barrie.

3. The Airbrush Debate

I wrote a blog awhile back about airbrush makeup, what it is and what’s the difference between airbrush makeup application and traditional makeup application. Take a look. (it should answer a lot of questions about longevity and how airbrush makeup is applied)

I understand many makeup artists are offering airbrush services to brides these days but brides please be cautious! Like traditional makeup application, aibrushing makeup is a skill. Matching your skin tone is essential for both traditional and airbrush makeup applications and unfortunately not all makeup artists are properly trained in colour theory and have not had the years of experience with different skin tones.

Properly applied foundation using either the traditional or airbrush application makes a huge difference to the way you look in person and the way you look in pictures. It should be one of the main reasons for hiring a professional to do your makeup. If you choose airbrushing, please choose wisely – look at the makeup artist’s portfolio of work, look closely at the skin tones of her brides and clients and decide which artist works best for you.

Until next time ladies....ta,ta!
